Regular Season Round 24: Gomel - Grodno GrSU 106-71
Date: February 19, 2022
Not a big story in a game when 8th ranked Grodno GrSU (7-15) was rolled over on the road by fifth ranked Gomel (13-7) 106-71 on Saturday. The game without a history. Gomel led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. Gomel forced 24 Grodno GrSU turnovers and outrebounded them 41-26 including a 28-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Gomel especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Grodno GrSU's players. The best player for the winners was guard Timofey Verevkin (187-1993) who scored 25 points. Russian guard Nikita Grabarev (190-2000) chipped in 16 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Four Gomel players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Dmitriy Mahnach (180-2001) who recorded 15 points and forward Dmitriy Naumenko (195-2003) added 13 points respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Gomel have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 13-7 record. Loser Grodno GrSU keeps the eighth place with 15 games lost. Gomel will meet bottom-ranked SDUSHOR (#10) in the next round where they are favorite. Grodno GrSU will play against Brest and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
