There was a surprise result when thirteenth ranked Santander (8-15) beat at home 3rd placed Mondragon (16-7) 58-50 on Saturday. They outrebounded Mondragon 54-40 including 39 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Santander made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was David Melero (190-1991) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds. Mali-American power forward Nouhoum Bocoum (208-1992, college: Arkansas St.) chipped in 11 points and 9 rebounds. Santander's coach Chisco Maranon used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Alex Ramon (186-1993, college: Colgate) who recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Daniel Lorenzo (181-1993) added 13 points and 7 steals respectively. Santander maintains thirteenth place with 8-15 record. Loser Mondragon dropped to the second position with seven games lost. They share it with Baskonia B. Santander will meet league's leader Santurtzi on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mondragon will play against Valle de Egues and hope to secure a win.
