The game in Madrid was also quite interesting. Second ranked Valencia (17-4) played at the court of 8th ranked Estudiantes (9-11). Valencia managed to secure a 7-point victory 59-52 on Saturday. German center Marie Guelich (194-1994, college: Oregon St.) had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Angela Salvadores (178-1997, college: Duke) chipped in 11 points (made all of her seven free throws) during the contest. At the losing side Argentinian point guard Melisa Gretter (166-1993) responded with 5 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists and American forward Nadia Fingall (191-1998, college: Stanford) scored 16 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Valencia have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 17-4 record having just one point less than leader Avenida. Loser Estudiantes keeps the eighth place with 11 games lost. Valencia will meet at home Leganes (#13) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Estudiantes will play against Zaragoza (#4) and hope to secure a win.
