There was a surprise result when tenth ranked Sassari (7-12) edged at home higher ranked Ragusa (12-7) 91-89 on Tuesday. American forward Jessica Shepard (193-1996, college: Notre Dame) nailed a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 23 rebounds for the winning side and her fellow American import guard Maggie Lucas (178-1991, college: Penn St.) accounted for 29 points. Finnish-Egyptian center Awak Kuier (195-2001) came up with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 14 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 blocks and American forward Asia Taylor (188-1991, college: Louisville) added 25 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Ragusa in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sassari maintains tenth place with 7-12 record. Ragusa lost their third game in a row. They keep the fifth position with seven games lost. Sassari will meet Faenza (#11) on the road in the next round. Ragusa will play against San Martino (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
