Regular Season Round 18: Grindavik - Vestri 90-74

Very expected game when 11th ranked Vestri (3-14) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Grindavik (10-8) 90-74 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 90-74. Grindavik looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American guard EC Matthews (196-1994, college: URI, agency: Duran International) scored 28 points to lead the charge for the winners and the former international guard Olafur Olafsson (194-1990) chipped in 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Grindavik's coach Daniel Gudmundsson used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Montenegrin power forward Nemanja Knezevic (205-1987) with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 18 rebounds and Croatian Marko Jurica (194-1996) scored 19 points. Four Grindavik and five Vestri players scored in double figures. Grindavik moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Stjarnan. Vestri lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eleventh position with 14 games lost. Grindavik will meet Stjarnan (#6) on the road in the next round. Vestri will play against the league's second-placed Njardvik (#2) and hope to secure a win.
