Second Stage Round 3: Korihait - Nokia 86-80 OT

There was an upset in Uusikaupunki where Nokia (12-13) was defeated by Korihait (5-20) 86-80 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-19. But Nokia won second period 18-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Nokia used huge pressure winning it 22-19 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 8-14. It was a great evening for American swingman Jalen Jackson (198-1994, college: UALR) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. His fellow American import forward Mitchell Smith (208-1997, college: Missouri) helped adding 20 points and 11 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Puerto Rican power forward Arnaldo Toro (203-1997, college: St.John's) with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 17 rebounds and the former international point guard Antero Lehto (185-1984) scored 15 points. Five Korihait and four Nokia players scored in double figures. Korihait will meet at home Kobrat (#10) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Nokia will play against Bisons in Loimaa and hope to secure a win.
