Regular Season Round 6: Kavkasia - Mgzavrebi 99-40

Another interesting game was again a derby between two teams from Tbilisi: Kavkasia (#2) and Mgzavrebi (#5). Kavkasia (4-1) smashed visiting Mgzavrebi (0-4) by 59 points 99-40. The game without a history. Kavkasia led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Mgzavrebi to just 5 points in fourth quarter. Kavkasia held Mgzavrebi to an opponent 22.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 51.3 percent accuracy of the winners. Kavkasia forced 37 Mgzavrebi turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Mgzavrebi's players. American guard Jordan Grant (190-1996, college: W.Connecticut) notched 20 points and 5 assists to lead the effort and center Nika Jaiani (205-2000) supported him with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Four Kavkasia players scored in double figures. Kavkasia's coach Beqa Tsivtsivadze felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 6 points and 5 rebounds by guard Luka Qutidze (180-2002) did not help to save the game for Mgzavrebi. Forward Dachi Sefiashvili (195-2002) added 8 points. Kavkasia have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 4-1 record behind leader Gtuni. Mgzavrebi at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. Kavkasia's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena Gtuni.
