Regular Season Round 23: Almozara - Joventut 2 69-62

There was an upset when higher ranked Joventut 2 (8-8) lost on the road to ninth ranked Almozara (7-10) 69-62 on Saturday. Almozara outrebounded Joventut 2 44-33 including a 40-29 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for center Victor Alijarde (200-1997) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds. Point guard Roberto Perez (192-1993) accounted for 9 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Forward Jordi Rodriguez (199-2004, agency: Global Sports Basketball) came up with 21 points and 6 rebounds and forward Conrad Martinez (201-2005) added 14 points respectively for Joventut 2 in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Almozara moved-up to eighth place in Group C-2. Loser Joventut 2 dropped to the sixth position with eight games lost. Almozara will meet higher ranked Mataro Parc (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Joventut 2 will play against the league's leader L'Hospitalet and will have a slim chance for a victory.
