Very expected game when 11th ranked Vestri (2-17) was smashed by second ranked IR (16-3) in Reykjavik 93-64 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by IR. Vestri managed to win third quarter 19-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Vestri's 24. IR forced 20 Vestri turnovers and outrebounded them 55-33 including a 22-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Vestri's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when IR made 7 blocks. Point guard Irena Jonsdottir (161-1997) nailed a double-double by scoring 25 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side and forward Anika Hjalmarsdottir (179-1997) accounted for 17 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 blocks. Four IR players scored in double figures. American guard Danielle Shafer (173-1995, college: Urbana) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists and guard Linda Kristjansdottir (170-1999) added 18 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Vestri in the defeat. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for IR. They maintain second place with 16-3 record behind leader Armann. Vestri lost their eighth game in a row.
