There was a small surprise when ninth ranked Girona (11-10) won against at home 6th ranked Caceres (12-11) 86-80 on Sunday. The former international center Marc Gasol (216-1985) scored 17 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Argentinian Maximo Fjellerup (196-1997) chipped in 16 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Cameroonian forward Benoit Mbala (200-1995) responded with 14 points and 5 rebounds and American guard Devin Schmidt (193-1994, college: Delta St., agency: Duran International) scored 14 points and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Girona have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Castello and Oviedo. Loser Caceres dropped to the seventh position with 11 games lost. Girona will meet Valladolid (#13) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Caceres will play against Oviedo (#10) and hope to secure a win.
