There was a surprise result when thirteenth ranked M.Ashdod (6-15) won against at home higher ranked E.Kiryat Ata (15-9) 116-111 on Sunday. M.Ashdod made 31-of-40 free shots (77.5 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists. American-Cuban swingman Yunio Barrueta (196-1993, college: Barry, agency: BIG) notched a double-double by scoring 29 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and the former international Raviv Pitshon (198-1989) supported him with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Even a double-double of 34 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 4 assists (on 14-of-15 shooting from the field) by American power forward Amin Stevens (203-1990, college: FAMU, agency: BIG) did not help to save the game for E.Kiryat Ata. His fellow American import guard Kenney Funderburk (193-1992, college: Columbus St., agency: Mansfield and Associates) added 27 points and 4 assists for the guests. Five M.Ashdod and four E.Kiryat Ata players scored in double figures. E.Kiryat Ata's coach Sharon Avrahami rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. M.Ashdod moved-up to twelfth place. Loser E.Kiryat Ata keeps the fifth position with nine games lost. M.Ashdod will meet higher ranked Ramat Hash. (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. E.Kiryat Ata will play against M.Hod Hasharon and hope to secure a win.
