Regular Season Round 24: Hottur - IA 128-84
Date: March 10, 2022
Very expected game when 10th ranked IA (1-23) was smashed by second ranked Hottur (20-3) in Egilsstadir 128-84 on Thursday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 11-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 128-84. Hottur dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to IA's 44. They outrebounded IA 53-29 including a 35-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Hottur looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists comparing to just 17 passes made by IA's players. The winners were led by American guard Tim Guers (190-1996, college: St.Anselm) who had that evening a triple-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists and Spanish forward Juan Luis Navarro (196-1991) supported him with 16 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists (perfect from the field making all six shots). Coach Einar Johannsson's team had such big advantage that he gave the chance to play for all 12 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Even 27 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists by Irish-British guard Lucien Christofis (188-1996) did not help to save the game for IA. Forward Aron Dagsson (192-2004) added 26 points and 9 rebounds. Five Hottur and four IA players scored in double figures. Hottur have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 20-3 record having just three points less than leader Haukar. IA lost twelfth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 23 lost games. Hottur will meet Sindri (#4) in the next round. IA will play against Skallagrimur (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
