Regular Season Round 23: Valladolid - Girona 57-77

Rather predictable result when tenth ranked Girona (12-10) rolled over on the road 13th ranked Valladolid (9-13) 77-57 on Saturday. Girona made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for the former international center Marc Gasol (216-1985) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Eric Vila (211-1998, college: UTEP) accounted for 10 points for the winning side. Four Girona players scored in double figures. American center Kavion Pippen (208-1996, college: SIU) came up with 14 points and 7 rebounds and Swedish point guard Melwin Pantzar (193-2000) added 10 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Valladolid in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Girona. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Valladolid keeps the thirteenth position with 13 games lost. Girona will meet at home league's leader Granada in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Valladolid will play against Oviedo (#9) and hope to secure a win.
