A very close game took place in Lappeenranta between Catz Lappeenranta and Tapiolan Honka. Ninth ranked Catz Lappeenranta (10-14) got a very close home victory over 7th ranked Tapiolan Honka (11-13). Catz Lappeenranta managed to escape with a 3-point win 70-67 on Saturday evening. Tapiolan Honka was trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 15-point lead after three quarters before a 25-7 charge of Catz Lappeenranta, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Tapiolan Honka to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Catz Lappeenranta forced 21 Tapiolan Honka turnovers. It was a great evening for American guard Brianna Cummings (178-1995, college: GWU) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds. Her fellow American import forward Seairra Barrett (183, college: California, PA) helped adding 19 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Cummings is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the losing side the former international center Elsa Lemmila (196-2005) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds and American power forward Carmen Tyson-Thomas (175-1991, college: Syracuse) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds. Tapiolan Honka's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Catz Lappeenranta. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with ViVe. Tapiolan Honka at the other side keeps the seventh position with 13 games lost. Catz Lappeenranta will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Tapiolan Honka will play against Forssan Alku (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
