Regular Season Round 17: Panathinaikos - Peristeri 75-57

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Panathinaikos as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Panathinaikos defeated 5th ranked Peristeri in Athens 75-57. The game was mostly controlled by Panathinaikos. Peristeri managed to win third quarter 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Peristeri 44-29 including a 32-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American forward Okaro White (206-1992, college: FSU) who scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Daryl Macon (190-1995, college: Arkansas) chipped in 16 points and 5 rebounds. Four Panathinaikos players scored in double figures. American Steven Gray (196-1989, college: Gonzaga) produced 10 points and the former international guard Dimitris Katsivelis (195-1991) added 8 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Panathinaikos (14-1) have an impressive series of twelve victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Olympiacos. Peristeri at the other side dropped to the sixth place with eight games lost. Peristeri will play next round against Larissa BC trying to get back on the winning streak. Panathinaikos will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked AEK. It will be extra interesting game as AEK is their local rival from Athens.
