Regular Season Round 25: Araski - Gernika 85-62

There was a surprise result in Vitoria-Gasteiz where twelfth ranked Araski (9-14) smashed higher ranked Gernika (10-12) 85-62 on Wednesday. They outrebounded Gernika 32-21 including 22 on the defensive glass. Mozambican power forward Leia Dongue (185-1991) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and American guard Tanaya Atkinson (183-1996, college: Temple) chipped in 26 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side American forward Tinara Moore (190-1996, college: CMU) responded with 18 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and the other American import guard Lashann Higgs (175-1995, college: Texas) scored 14 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Araski moved-up to eleventh place. Loser Gernika keeps the seventh position with 12 games lost. They share it with Estudiantes. Araski will meet higher ranked Estudiantes (#8) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gernika will play against Girona having rather not much hope for a victory.
