Regular Season Round 20: Honka - Vilpas 98-77

Very predictable result in Espoo where third ranked Honka (11-5) smashed bottom-ranked Vilpas (2-13) 98-77 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Honka. Vilpas managed to win third quarter 26-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Vilpas' 36. They outrebounded Vilpas 48-23 including a 19-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Honka looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was guard Riku Korhonen (192-2004) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Olli Pelkonen (188-2004) chipped in 27 points. Four Honka players scored in double figures. Forward Timur Emaldynov (190-2003) produced 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and center Onni Makynen (198-2004) added 10 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Honka maintains third position with 11-5 record behind leader OBA. Vilpas lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 13 games lost. Honka will meet HNMKY (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. Vilpas will play against Kataja and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
