Regular Season Round 25: Coruna - Girona 72-96

We should mention about the upset which took place in Coruna, where higher ranked Coruna (14-12) was outleveled at home by tenth ranked Girona (13-11) 96-72 on Sunday. Girona dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Coruna's 30. Argentinian Maximo Fjellerup (196-1997) stepped up and scored 23 points and 5 assists for the winners and the former international center Marc Gasol (216-1985) chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds. At the losing side Swedish Johan Lofberg (199-1995) responded with 17 points and 6 rebounds and American forward Nick Ward (203-1997, college: Michigan St.) scored 13 points. Four Coruna players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Girona moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Oviedo. Loser Coruna keeps the fifth position with 12 games lost. Girona will meet at home Acunsa GBC (#11) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Coruna will play against Oviedo (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
