Second Stage Round 8: KTP Basket - Vilpas 88-101
Date: March 22, 2022
The game between Top Four teams took place in Kotka. One of their biggest challengers host KTP Basket (17-13) lost to third ranked Vilpas (19-11) 101-88. The game was mostly controlled by Vilpas. KTP Basket was better in third quarter 25-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vilpas shot 61.9 percent from the field. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Vilpas brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. The winners were led by forward Riku Laine (197-1997) who scored that evening 19 points and 6 rebounds and the former international Mikko Koivisto (194-1987, college: UNCG, agency: Blacktop Management) supported him with 23 points (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Vilpas' coach Sami Toiviainen allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 28 points and 7 rebounds by American guard Roydell Brown (198-1998, college: McNeese St.) did not help to save the game for KTP Basket. The former international forward Remu Raitanen (206-1997, college: USF, agency: Blacktop Management) added 21 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains third position with 19-11 record having just six point less than leader Kauhajoki. KTP Basket at the other side keeps the fourth place with 13 games lost. They share the position with Seagulls. Vilpas will play against Seagulls (#5) in Helsinki in the next round. KTP Basket will play at home against the league's leader Kauhajoki and hopes to get back on the winning track.
