Regular Season Round 18: Mega - Olimpi 83-90
Date: March 24, 2022
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Tbilisi: Olimpi (#3) and Mega (#7). Mega was defeated at home 83-90 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The guests were already 16 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 32-23 Mega's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 90-83 at the end of the game. The former international swingman Kakhaber Jintcharadze (196-1993) notched 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) to lead the effort and forward Luka Kalatozishvili (198-1999) supported him with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Olimpi's coach Davit Rogava allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 26 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists by American guard Djimon Henson (190-1998, college: Morehead St.) did not help to save the game for Mega. South Sudanese-Australian center Deng Acuoth (213-1996) added 12 points and 14 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Olimpi have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 10-5 record having just two points less than leader TSU. Newly promoted Mega keeps the seventh place with nine games lost. Olimpi's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tbilisi Vera.
