Regular Season Round 21: Njardvik - Stjarnan 91-83

Very expected game when 6th ranked Stjarnan (11-9) was defeated on the road by second ranked Njardvik (15-5) 91-83 on Friday. Stjarnan trailed by 15 points at halftime and as many as 18 after three quarters before a 20-10 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 83-91 at the end of the game. Njardvik dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Stjarnan's 34. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Croatian power forward Mario Matasovic (200-1993, college: Sacred Heart) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and American point guard Dedrick Basile (178-1994, college: CSUB) chipped in 14 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals. Four Njardvik players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American point guard Robert Turner III (193-1993, college: Texas Tech, agency: Interperformances) with 27 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and Slovenian forward David Gabrovsek (204-1994, college: MBU) scored 16 points and 9 rebounds. Njardvik maintains second place with 15-5 record behind leader Thor Thorl. Loser Stjarnan keeps the sixth position with nine games lost. They share it with Grindavik. Njardvik will meet at home Keflavik (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Stjarnan will play against Breidablik in Kopavogur and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
