Tenth-ranked IR (7-13) made lots of trouble for seventh ranked Grindavik (11-9) on Friday. Grindavik managed to secure only three-point victory 89-86. However their fans expected easier game. The hosts trailed by 7 points at the halftime before their 28-16 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. American guard EC Matthews (196-1994, college: URI, agency: Duran International) stepped up and scored 35 points (!!!) for the winners and Spanish forward Ivan Aurrecoechea (203-1995, college: NM State) chipped in 19 points and 16 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). The best for the losing side was American-French forward Jordan Semple (201-1992, college: Chico St., agency: Octagon Europe) with 26 points and 5 rebounds and Croatian forward Igor Maric (195-1985, agency: PEPI SPORT) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Four IR players scored in double figures. Grindavik moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Stjarnan. IR lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the tenth position with 13 games lost. Grindavik will meet at home league's leader Thor Thorl in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. IR will play against Vestri (#11) in Isafjordur and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
