Regular Season Round 9: Astrali - Kavkasia 72-94
Date: March 26, 2022
Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Tbilisi: Kavkasia (#2) and Astrali (#3). Astrali was crushed at home by 22 points 72-94 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by Kavkasia. Astrali was better in second period 24-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kavkasia dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Astrali's 46. Kavkasia forced 20 Astrali turnovers. American swingman Markese Mayfield (196-1995, college: Ferris St.) nailed a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side and swingman Tariel Zuzadze (196-1997) accounted for 15 points. Mayfield is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American forward Evan Milligan (200-1997, college: Life) came up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and guard Saba Geguchadze (196-2000) added 14 points respectively for Astrali in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Kavkasia maintains second place with 6-2 record having just two points less than leader Gtuni. Newly promoted Astrali dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. Kavkasia's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tbilisi Zestaponi.
