Very predictable result when second ranked Valencia (23-4) defeated at home 10th ranked Gran Canaria (11-16) 67-61 on Thursday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The best player for the winners was international point guard Cristina Ouvina (173-1990) who scored 19 points, 5 assists and 4 steals (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). American center Celeste Trahan-Davis (186-1985, college: ECSU, agency: LBM Management) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. Valencia's coach Ruben Burgos allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Lydia Giomi (198-1997, college: Oregon) who recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds and guard Blanca Millan (185-1998, college: Maine) added 20 points respectively. The victory was the eleventh consecutive win for Valencia. They maintain second place with 23-4 record having just one point less than leader Avenida. Gran Canaria lost their third game in a row. They keep the tenth position with 16 games lost. They share it with Ensino. Valencia will meet Ensino (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gran Canaria will play against Clarinos in San Cristobal and hope to secure a win.
