Regular Season Round 10: Kavkasia - Zestaponi 126-67

Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Tbilisi: Kavkasia (#2) and Zestaponi (#5). Kavkasia (7-2) smashed visiting Zestaponi (1-8) by 59 points 126-67. The game without a history. Kavkasia led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Zestaponi's 38. They outrebounded Zestaponi 53-29 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Kavkasia shot the lights out from three nailing 15 long-distance shots on high 53.6 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 42 assists comparing to just 20 passes made by Zestaponi's players. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Nigerian guard Mike Balogun (194-1991, college: Arkansas Tech) who helped to win the game recording 30 points. American swingman Markese Mayfield (196-1995, college: Ferris St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Mayfield is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Kavkasia players scored in double figures. Kavkasia's coach Beqa Tsivtsivadze felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Davit Dekanoidze (198-1991) replied with 28 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists and center Giorgi Shalikiani (207-1989) added 10 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Zestaponi. Kavkasia have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 7-2 record having just two points less than leader Gtuni. Zestaponi at the other side keeps the fifth place with eight games lost.
