There was no surprise when 8th ranked Barakaldo (11-14) was outplayed on the road by first ranked Almeria (20-5) 92-54 on Saturday. Almeria outrebounded Barakaldo 41-24 including 29 on the defensive glass. Forward Maria Fernandez (175-1996) fired 32 points for the winners. Argentinian point guard Macarena Durso (169-1991) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Almeria players scored in double figures. American forward Alexus Johnson (188-1994, college: Texas Southern) produced 15 points and 9 rebounds and Uruguayan point guard Florencia Niski (165-2002) added 12 points respectively for lost side. Barakaldo's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Almeria have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place in Group A with 20-5 record. Barakaldo lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with 14 games lost. Almeria will meet Leon (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Barakaldo will play against Coruna and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
