There was no surprise when 14th ranked Fabriano (3-22) was outplayed on the road by second ranked Verona (19-5) 74-43 on Saturday. Verona outrebounded Fabriano 42-28 including 33 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American swingman Xavier Johnson (201-1993, college: Colorado) who had a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Sasha Grant (198-2002) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds. Four Verona players scored in double figures. The former international guard Marco Santiangeli (192-1991, agency: Players Group) produced 9 points and 8 rebounds and guard Claudio Tommasini (197-1991) added 13 points respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Verona maintains second place in A2 with 19-5 record behind leader Scafati. Newly promoted Fabriano keeps the fourteenth position with 22 games lost. Verona will meet Ferrara (#4) on the road in the next round. Fabriano will play against Chieti (#11) and hope to secure a win.
