There was an upset when higher ranked Varese (11-14) was edged at home by fifteenth ranked Sangiorgese (8-16) 48-46 on Saturday. Francesco Toso (204-1996, agency: SLN) stepped up and scored 8 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and point guard Andrea Bargnesi (182-2001, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 14 points. At the losing side the former international forward Marco Allegretti (204-1981) responded with 6 points and 12 rebounds and the former international Andrea Pilotti (195-1980) scored 15 points. Varese's coach Gabriele Donati rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Sangiorgese moved-up to fourteenth place in B. Loser Varese dropped to the ninth position with 14 games lost. They share it with Monfalcone. Sangiorgese will meet at home league's second-placed Vigevano in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Varese will play against Langhe Roero (#6) in Corneliano d'Alba and hope to secure a win.
