Regular Season Round 20: AEK - Panathinaikos 69-83
Date: April 3, 2022
The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Athens: Panathinaikos (#1) and AEK (#5). AEK was defeated at home 69-83 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of AEK. The game without a history. Panathinaikos led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Cuban guard Howard Sant-Roos (201-1991, agency: Octagon Europe) who helped to win the game recording 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international forward Ioannis Papapetrou (203-1994, college: Texas) who added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Four Panathinaikos players scored in double figures. Panathinaikos' coach Dimitris Priftis used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American Ian Hummer (201-1990, college: Princeton) responded with 23 points and Spanish point guard Joaquin Colom (188-1988, college: Lleida, agency: Global Sports Basketball) scored 6 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Panathinaikos (17-1) have an impressive 15-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position. AEK at the other side keeps the fifth place with ten games lost. Panathinaikos are looking forward to face league's second-placed Olympiacos in Pireus in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. AEK will play at home against Lavrio and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
