Regular Season Round 25: Sassari - Milano 92-90
Date: April 3, 2022
The most exciting game of round 25 in the Serie A took place in Sassari. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of much higher ranked Milano (19-4) to eighth ranked Sassari (11-11) 92-90 on Sunday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. Sassari shot the lights out from three sinking 19 long-distance shots on high 55.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Croatian center Miro Bilan (213-1989, agency: BeoBasket) stepped up and scored 21 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and Lithuanian forward Eimantas Bendzius (207-1990) chipped in 17 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. At the losing side Ghanian-American Ben Bentil (204-1995, college: Providence) responded with 22 points and American guard Malcolm Delaney (191-1989, college: Virginia Tech) scored 18 points and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Milano's coach Ettore Messina tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Sassari moved-up to seventh place. Milano at the other side keeps the second position with four games lost. Sassari are looking forward to face Pesaro (#13) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Milano will play against the league's leader Virtus BO (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.
