There was an upset when higher ranked Reggio Emilia (12-13) was defeated at home by twelfth ranked Trieste (11-14) 109-103 on Sunday. Trieste made 31-of-38 free shots (81.6 percent) during the game. Trieste had a 38-25 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American-Israeli Adrian Banks (191-1986, college: Arkansas St.) had a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Latvian Andrejs Grazulis (202-1993) chipped in 22 points and 14 rebounds during the contest. Trieste's coach Franco Ciani used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The former international guard Andrea Cinciarini (191-1986) responded with a triple-double by scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists and American forward Justin Johnson (200-1996, college: WKU) scored 20 points and 8 rebounds. Four Trieste and five Reggio Emilia players scored in double figures. Trieste moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Reggio Emilia lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 13 games lost. Trieste will meet at home bottom-ranked Cremona (#16) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Reggio Emilia will play against Brescia (#3) and hope to secure a win.
