Regular Season Round 14: Varese - Trieste 76-92
Date: April 13, 2022
Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both eleventh ranked Trieste and 12th ranked Varese had identical 11-14 record. But Varese was not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Trieste 92-76 on Wednesday night. Trieste had a 29-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. American-Israeli Adrian Banks (191-1986, college: Arkansas St.) notched 21 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and Mali forward Sagaba Konate (203-1997, college: WVU) supported him with 15 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Trieste players scored in double figures. Even 22 points and 8 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) by American point guard Marcus Keene (178-1995, college: CMU) did not help to save the game for Varese. Lithuanian forward Paulius Sorokas (202-1992, agency: Players Group) added 10 points and 9 rebounds for the hosts. Varese's coach Johan Roijakkers tested eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Trieste (12-14) moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Pesaro. Loser Varese dropped to the tenth position with 15 games lost. They share it with Brindisi and Trento. Trieste will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Varese will play against Fortitudo BO (#15) in Bologna and hope to secure a win.
