Regular Season Round 24: Honka - Kouvot 63-86

Very significant was Kouvot's (#5) 23-point road victory against one of their biggest challengers Honka 86-63. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Honka. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Kouvot. Honka was better in second period 21-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Honka 44-33 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by center Eemeli Salmi (198-2004) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 16 points and 18 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and point guard Daniel Rantapaju (182-2004) supported him with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Even 15 points and 8 rebounds by guard Markus Hyytiainen (191-2002) did not help to save the game for Honka. Forward Matias Rissanen (200-2003) added 14 points and 5 rebounds. Five Kouvot and four Honka players scored in double figures. Honka's coach gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Kouvot have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with OBA and Raiders. Honka at the other side dropped to the fifth position with six games lost.
