Everything went according to plan when seventh ranked Piombino (15-14) edged at home 13th ranked Sangiorgese (11-18) 82-80 on Sunday. However just two-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Center Edoardo Persico (208-1987) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and guard Mattia Venucci (185-1990, agency: SLN) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds. Point guard Andrea Bargnesi (182-2001, agency: Interperformances) responded with 13 points and Francesco Toso (204-1996, agency: SLN) scored 12 points and 6 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sangiorgese's coach Davide Roncari rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Piombino moved-up to sixth place in B, which they share with Vicenza and Desio. Loser Sangiorgese dropped to the twelfth position with 18 games lost. They share it with Bologna Basket. Piombino will meet Cecina (#15) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Sangiorgese will play against Empoli and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
