Regular Season Round 25: AEK - Peristeri 78-72
Date: May 7, 2022
The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Athens: AEK (#4) and Peristeri (#8). AEK (13-10) won against visiting Peristeri (9-14) 78-72. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Peristeri won third quarter 26-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. AEK made 23-of-28 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game, while Peristeri only scored four points from the stripe. Worth to mention a great performance of Spanish point guard Joaquin Colom (188-1988, college: Lleida, agency: BIG) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 7 assists. American Ian Hummer (201-1990, college: Princeton) contributed with 18 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. International point guard Dimitris Moraitis (194-1999) answered with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and Polish forward Tomasz Gielo (205-1993, college: Ole Miss, agency: Network Sports International) added 15 points in the effort for Peristeri. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. AEK have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 13-10 record. Peristeri at the other side keeps the eighth position with 14 games lost. They share it with PAOK. AEK are looking forward to face PAOK (#9) in Thessaloniki in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Peristeri will play at home against Lavrio and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
