There was no surprise when 12th ranked Varese (12-18) lost at home to sixth ranked Sassari (17-13) 110-96 on Sunday. Sassari outrebounded Varese 38-21 including a 26-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists. Croatian center Miro Bilan (213-1989, agency: BeoBasket) notched 18 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and American guard Gerald Robinson (185-1989, college: Georgia) supported him with 18 points and 11 assists. Five Sassari players scored in double figures. Sassari's coach Demis Cavina used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 31 points and 4 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) by American point guard Marcus Keene (178-1995, college: CMU) did not help to save the game for Varese. Dominican-Puerto Rican swingman Justin Reyes (193-1995, college: STAC) added 19 points. Sassari have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Venezia and Tortona. Loser Varese dropped to the tenth position with 18 games lost. They share it with Brindisi and Treviso.
