There was a minor upset when Marsky Helsinki (1-2) was crushed at home by Torpan Pojat (1-1) 99-58 on Friday. The game without a history. Torpan Pojat led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Marsky Helsinki to just 7 points in second quarter. Torpan Pojat dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Marsky Helsinki's 30. Torpan Pojat forced 19 Marsky Helsinki turnovers and outrebounded them 42-29 including 29 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Marsky Helsinki's players. The best player for the winners was the former international center Taru Tuukkanen (192-1977, college: Xavier) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 6 rebounds and 13 assists. American forward Iimari Thomas (178-2000, college: UCLA) chipped in a double-double by scoring 23 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international guard Elina Aarnisalo (177-2005) who recorded 18 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and center Albina Syla (194-2004) added 9 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Torpan Pojat will meet at home Catz Lappeenranta (#9) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Marsky Helsinki will play against Kouvottaret in Kouvola and hope to win that game.
