Regular Season Round 3: Kataja - Kobrat 91-73

The biggest surprise of round 3 in Korisliiga took place in Joensuu where host Kataja (1-1) beat Kobrat (2-1) 91-73 on Saturday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Kataja. Kobrat managed to win fourth quarter 23-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Kobrat 41-27 including 30 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American forward Galin Smith (206-1998, college: Maryland) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds. The former international point guard Tuomas Hirvonen (181-1996) chipped in 13 points and 9 assists. Four Kataja players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Eric Adams (203-1995, college: Samford) who recorded 14 points and the other American import forward Danny Pippen (206-1997, college: Kent St.) added 9 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kobrat will play next round against Vilpas trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Kataja will try to continue on its current victory against Lahti on the road.
