Regular Season Round 5: ASVEL - Gravelines 99-71

There was no surprise in Villeurbanne where bottom-ranked Gravelines (0-5) was outplayed by seventh ranked ASVEL (4-1) 99-71 on Saturday. ASVEL forced 19 Gravelines turnovers and outrebounded them 39-24 including 24 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was Danish-Israeli point guard Noam Yaacov (186-2004) who scored 18 points and 6 assists. Forward Zaccharie Risacher (200-2005) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. Four ASVEL players scored in double figures. ASVEL's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Guard Willan Hairabetian (189-2003) produced 18 points and center Jared Ambrose (204-2002) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for ASVEL. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Nancy. Gravelines lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. They share the position with Le Portel. ASVEL will meet higher ranked Roanne (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gravelines will play against Strasbourg (#15) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
