Esperides used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Lefkadas 63-52 on Sunday night. Esperides looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Valerie Higgins (185-1998, college: Pacific, agency: LBM Management) who scored 26 points and 9 rebounds. Romanian forward Anamaria Virjoghe (196-1999, college: Gonzaga) chipped in 5 points and 18 rebounds. Esperides' coach Thanos Softsis used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Stasha Carey (188-1995, college: Rutgers) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and her fellow American import swingman Abby OConnor (183-1998, college: Gonzaga) added 7 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Esperides will meet Eleutheria M. in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Niki Lefkadas will play against Olympiacos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
