No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Sassari (4-1) smashed at home 8th ranked Moncalieri (2-3) 83-59 on Saturday. Sassari forced 23 Moncalieri turnovers. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 52.0 percentage. Sassari looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Swedish forward Elin Gustavsson (190-1993, college: Colorado St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and Polish guard Anna Makurat (184-2000, college: UConn) chipped in 14 points and 9 assists. Four Sassari players scored in double figures. American forward Kathryn Westbeld (190-1996, college: Notre Dame) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds and the former international forward Marzia Tagliamento (183-1996) scored 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Moncalieri's coach Marco Spanu gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Sassari moved-up to third place, which they share with San Giovanni and Bologna. Loser Moncalieri dropped to the seventh position with three games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Sassari will meet Campobasso (#6) on the road in the next round.
