Regular Season Round 3: Peristeri - AEK 80-84
Date: October 23, 2022
Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Athens: AEK (#1) and Peristeri (#7). Despite it looked like an easy game for AEK, those rules do not exist in derby games. It's more the case of honor for local supporters and such games have that special and unique approach you cannot find in other games. Host Peristeri challenged much higher ranked AEK giving them a very tough game, but finally losing it by four points 84-80. AEK made 23-of-29 free shots (79.3 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American forward Cameron McGriff (201-1997, college: OK State) who scored 18 points and 7 rebounds. His fellow American import point guard Tim Frazier (185-1990, college: Penn St.) chipped in 13 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Marcus Denmon (191-1990, college: Missouri, agency: BeoBasket) who recorded 27 points and Croatian center Miro Bilan (213-1989, agency: BeoBasket) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Five AEK and four Peristeri players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. AEK will meet at home Aris (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Peristeri will play against Apollon P. in Patras and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
