Regular Season Round 7: Kouvot - Kobrat 104-90

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Kobrat (5-2) in Kouvola on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by sixth ranked Kouvot (4-2) 104-90. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Kobrat. Kobrat was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 35-19 charge of Kouvot, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Kobrat's 30 and made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Kobrat 42-30 including 32 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Deshon Taylor (188-1996, college: Fresno St.) who helped to win the game recording 38 points (!!!) and 5 assists. Jamaican-American forward Wayne Martin (201-1993, college: Tennessee St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. American swingman Denzel Livingston (193-1993, college: UIW) answered with 23 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import guard KJ Jackson (188-1998, college: UMBC) added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Kobrat. Five Kouvot and four Kobrat players scored in double figures. Kobrat's coach Ville Turja rotated eleven players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kouvot have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Kauhajoki. Kobrat at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. They share it with Kotka. Kouvot is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Vilpas (#12) in Salo in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Kobrat will play at home against the league's second-placed Kotka (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
