There was a minor upset when 5th ranked Gijon (2-2) was defeated at home by eighth ranked Gijon Basket (2-2) 89-72 on Saturday. Gijon Basket made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was point guard Sergio Martinez (180-1992) who scored 8 points and 9 rebounds. Fernando Suarez (-2003) chipped in 14 points. Guard Samuel Barros (190-1998) produced 16 points and Bosnian Sandro Gacic (201-1996) added 10 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Gijon Basket moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 8 other teams including defeated Gijon.
