Regular Season Round 7: ASVEL - Nancy 99-71

There was no surprise when 7th ranked Nancy (4-3) was outleveled by second ranked ASVEL (6-1) in Villeurbanne 99-71 on Monday. ASVEL forced 22 Nancy turnovers and outrebounded them 40-25 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for Gambian center Babacar Mbye (212-2002) who led the winners and scored 21 points and 8 rebounds. Danish-Israeli point guard Noam Yaacov (186-2004) accounted for 13 points and 11 assists for the winning side. Five ASVEL players scored in double figures. ASVEL's coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Nolan Kingue (194-2003) came up with 31 points and swingman Guillaume Grotzinger (195-2004) added 17 points and 6 assists respectively for Nancy in the defeat. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for ASVEL. They maintain second place with 6-1 record having just one point less than leader Cholet. Loser Nancy keeps the seventh position with three games lost. They share it with Limoges CSP and Blois. ASVEL will meet at home Fos-Provence (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Nancy will play against Roanne and hope to secure a win.
