Regular Season Round 8: IR - Haukar 49-93
Date: November 2, 2022
Bottom-ranked IR (0-8) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their eighth consecutive match to second ranked Haukar (7-1) 93-49 on Wednesday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Haukar. IR managed to win third quarter 25-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding IR to just 1 points in first quarter and to 12 points in first half. Haukar dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to IR's 20. Haukar forced 20 IR turnovers and outrebounded them 53-38 including a 39-28 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American guard Keira Robinson (170-1994, college: VCU) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals. The former international forward Eva Kristjansdottir (186-1997) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Five Haukar players scored in double figures. Estonian swingman Greeta Uprus (177-1994) produced 15 points and 6 rebounds and American guard Jamie Cherry (173-1997, college: UNC) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Haukar have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 7-1 record behind leader Keflavik. Newly promoted IR still closes the standings with eight games lost. Haukar will meet Valur (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. IR's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Reykjavik to the arena Fjolnir.
