Regular Season Round 7: AZS UMK - Gniezno 88-82

No shocking result in a game when second ranked AZS UMK (6-1) beat 7th ranked Gniezno (4-3) in Torun 88-82 on Wednesday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. AZS UMK looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was an exceptional evening for power forward Szymon Janczak (206-2000) who led the winners and scored 26 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Krystian Mackiewicz (188-1999) accounted for 20 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Power forward Mikolaj Czyz (205-1998, agency: Octagon Europe) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds and point guard Daniel Kotwasinski (185-1999) added 13 points and 10 assists respectively for Gniezno in the defeat. Four Gniezno players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for AZS UMK. They maintain second place with 6-1 record behind leader Energa W-wa, which they share with Prudnik. Loser Gniezno dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with 6 other teams. AZS UMK will meet Tarnovia (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Gniezno will play against AMW Gdynia and hope to secure a win.
