Regular Season Round 8: Gorizont - Olimpia 84-71

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Olimpia (6-1) in Minsk on Wednesday night. Visitors were defeated by Gorizont (7-0) 84-71. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Olimpia. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Gorizont made 17-of-17 free shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Anastasiya Verameyenka (195-1987) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists and Palina Kastsiukavets (178-2004) who added 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) during the contest. The former international point guard Katsiaryna Novik (179-2005) responded with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and center Palina Damianiak (190-2005) scored 12 points and 8 rebounds. Four Gorizont and five Olimpia players scored in double figures. Olimpia's coach Viktoryia Datsun rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Gorizont have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 7-0 record. Olimpia at the other side keeps the second place with one game lost. Gorizont will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Olimpia will play at home against RGUOR and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
