Regular Season Round 8: Gorizont 2 - Gomel 63-91

Rather expected game in Minsk where 8th ranked Gorizont 2 (1-7) was crushed by sixth ranked Gomel (3-5) 91-63 on Thursday. Gomel dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Gorizont 2's 38. Gomel forced 19 Gorizont 2 turnovers and outrebounded them 51-32 including a 37-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Gorizont 2's players. The best player for the winners was Daria Panasyuk (176-1996) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Power forward Olga Kopylova (187-1982) chipped in 17 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Gomel players scored in double figures. Alisa Borschevskaya produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds and Anastasia Kazakova (-2004) added 11 points and 4 steals respectively for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gomel maintains sixth position with 3-5 record. Gorizont 2 lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with seven games lost. Gomel will meet higher ranked BDU Tsmoki (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Gorizont 2 will play against Victoria (#5) in Grodno and hope to win that game.
