Regular Season Round 9: Poitiers - Tarbes-Lourdes 100-78

There was a surprise result when eleventh ranked Poitiers (4-5) smashed at home higher ranked Lourdes-Tarbes (4-5) 100-78 on Friday. Poitiers made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Lourdes-Tarbes' players. American swingman Marcus Relphorde (198-1988, college: Colorado) stepped up and scored 20 points for the winners and forward Kevin Mendy (200-1992) chipped in 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was naturalized Guyanese Mike Joseph (203-1994) with 12 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Tom Wiscart Goetz (188-1999) scored 11 points. Five Poitiers and four Lourdes-Tarbes players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Poitiers moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 6 other teams including defeated Lourdes-Tarbes. Poitiers will meet Vitre (#6) on the road in the next round. Lourdes-Tarbes will play against C'Chartres and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
